Lawsuit Filed in Florida Against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman

Florida (Web Desk) – The U.S. state of Florida has filed a lawsuit on Monday against technology company OpenAI and its Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman.

The lawsuit alleges that the company knowingly released ChatGPT to the public and concealed serious risks associated with it.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said during a press conference that OpenAI ignored internal safety warnings and misled users about the true nature and potential dangers of its product.

He said this is the first state-level lawsuit filed against OpenAI and its CEO, adding that the company disregarded both internal and external safety concerns, put children at risk, and released a potentially dangerous technology to millions of users.

The complaint also references two separate shooting incidents in which alleged attackers reportedly used ChatGPT during the planning of their crimes.

In response, OpenAI said its models repeatedly encouraged individuals to seek real-world help, including contacting mental health professionals.

The company also stated that it has fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in both cases.
