Karachi (Commerce Desk): Pakistan has reported its first successful discovery of a hydrocarbon play near a coastal area, which is being described as a significant development in the country’s oil and gas exploration sector.
According to Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), a significant and unique gas reserve has been discovered at the “Dolphin” exploration well in the Sarani Block, operated by the company in Sujawal district, Sindh.
According to PPL, this is the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Jurassic-age Chiltan Formation of the Lower Indus Basin.
The company said the discovery confirms the presence of a petroleum system in the area, while also opening new avenues for further oil and gas exploration in onshore marshy areas and potentially shallower offshore extensions.
