Jalisco (Showbiz Desk) — 28-year-old Maria Vargas from the Mexican state of Jalisco has won the national beauty pageant, earning the title of Miss Universe Mexico 2026. She will represent Mexico at the upcoming global Miss Universe competition.
At the national competition held in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Maria Vargas defeated 32 contestants to secure first place.
Maria Vargas holds a degree in international business and is also an author. She has taken over the Miss Universe Mexico crown from Fatima Bosch.
In the final stage of the competition, Maria Vargas faced four other finalists. Mariana Macias was named first runner-up, while Fernanda Abrava was declared second runner-up.
Before the results were announced, while answering a question from the judges, Maria Vargas said that if she succeeded in winning the crown, she would use it to carry forward Fatima Bosch’s legacy.
She said that while carrying forward this legacy, she would not only speak up for others but would also prioritize listening carefully to people.
According to Maria Vargas, raising one’s voice is not limited to helping others; it also opens the doors to opportunities that were previously closed.
Fatima Bosch won the 74th Miss Universe competition, held on November 21, 2025, at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Thailand.
Maria Vargas will now represent Mexico at the Miss Universe competition to be held on November 24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
