Lahore (Sports Desk): England fast bowler Mark Wood has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 36 following a series of injuries.
Representing England across all three formats, Mark Wood took 253 wickets in 146 matches, including 119 wickets in 38 Test matches. He made his international debut for England in 2015 and was part of the team that won the Ashes series that year.
He was also a member of England’s victorious squads at the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. Wood took 18 wickets during the 2019 World Cup and claimed 17 wickets in the 2021-22 Ashes series.
During the 2025 Champions Trophy, he underwent surgery after suffering a knee injury, while he was injured again after returning in the first Test of the most recent Ashes series.
Mark Wood said that the recurring injuries had left him mentally exhausted and that he now felt it was the right time to retire from international cricket.
He will continue playing for Durham in the T20 Blast and other franchise leagues, while also remaining involved in broadcasting and coaching.
