Truoba (Sports Desk) — Pakistan improved its position on the second day of the first Test match against West Indies with a cautious and responsible batting performance.
In response to West Indies’ first innings total of 311 runs at the Truoba Test, Pakistan scored 199 runs for the loss of 3 wickets by the end of the second day’s play. Captain Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88 runs, while Salman Ali Agha was not out without scoring.
For Pakistan, opener Imam-ul-Haq played a brilliant and responsible innings of 63 runs, but was dismissed after completing his half-century. Captain Babar Azam also failed to stay at the crease for long and returned to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs.
Test debutant Azan Awais could not make a significant impact with the bat and was dismissed without scoring.
Earlier, West Indies resumed their incomplete first innings on the second day from 194 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. However, Pakistani bowlers displayed excellent control and bowled out the hosts after adding only 117 more runs to their total.
For West Indies, Shai Hope was the top scorer with 92 runs, while Kavem Hodge scored 84 runs. Shamar Joseph made 23, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Aamir Jangoo scored 21 each, Justin Greaves contributed 15, Brandon King made 12, and Roston Chase scored 10 runs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Ali delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs, while Mohammad Abbas claimed 3 wickets, Khurram Shahzad took 2, and Aamir Jamal took 1 wicket.
It is worth mentioning that West Indies had made a strong start on the opening day of the first Test, scoring 194 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
