Pakistan Played a Key Facilitator Role in Ceasefire: Ambassador

Islamabad (Pakistan Khabar): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Washington, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, revealed in an interview that Pakistan’s continuous diplomatic efforts played a key role behind the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

He said these efforts had been ongoing for several weeks and ultimately led to a successful ceasefire and the start of negotiations. According to him, this development reflects the success of diplomacy and dialogue, adding that Pakistan has always prioritized positive diplomacy.

The ambassador appreciated the trust shown by all parties in Pakistan, calling it a major responsibility that was fulfilled with sincerity. He further stated that countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and China also played important roles in this diplomatic process. Their joint efforts not only made the ceasefire possible but also paved the way for negotiations.

According to Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, China emphasized patience and diplomacy from the very beginning, while Pakistan’s top leadership played a direct role throughout the process. He noted that confidentiality and mutual trust are essential for successful negotiations, and decisions made without pressure tend to be more effective.

He added that the authority to make decisions lies with the concerned parties, while Pakistan continues to fulfill its responsibilities as a facilitator. The ambassador also highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing and strong relations with Gulf countries, where millions of Pakistanis reside, and noted that close contact was maintained with Gulf leadership throughout the process.

He expressed hope that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts will yield positive results and that peace and stability in the region will have beneficial impacts not only on the Gulf but also on global politics and the economy.
