Quetta (Pakistan News) Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has described the unanimous decision of the International Court of Arbitration regarding the Indus Waters Treaty as an important legal and diplomatic victory for Pakistan’s position.
In his statement, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the decision of the International Court of Arbitration made it clear that the Indus Waters Treaty remains in force and that India is legally bound to comply with it. According to him, the decision represents an important development in protecting Pakistan’s longstanding water rights.
The Balochistan Chief Minister said that for Pakistan, the Indus Waters Treaty is not merely a bilateral agreement but an important international legal framework concerning the protection of the country’s water resources and national interests. The unanimous decision of the International Court of Arbitration strengthens Pakistan’s position that compliance with international agreements is the responsibility of every party.
He said that the decision has further strengthened the principles of compliance with international agreements, the supremacy of international law and respect for agreements reached between states.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that Pakistan will continue to use constitutional, legal and diplomatic means to protect its water rights. Describing the International Court of Arbitration’s decision as an endorsement of Pakistan’s longstanding position, he said that this development also highlights the importance of resolving water-related issues in the region in accordance with international law and established agreements.
The Balochistan Chief Minister said that maintaining the legal status of the Indus Waters Treaty is an important development for Pakistan, further highlighting the importance of international legal principles in resolving water disputes in the future.
