Islamabad (Pakistan Khabar): The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition concerning a recount in PB-9 Kohlu, has directed that the case be fixed before a three-member bench.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan heard the case. The petitioner’s lawyer, Kamran Murtaza, told the court that under the rules, a three-member bench can hear appeals against decisions of election tribunals. However, the Supreme Court’s new rules do not mention election tribunals.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan remarked that voting took place at four polling stations and that the main dispute concerns an allegedly unrealistic turnout. The court has previously ruled on the matter, while the current case also raises the question of turnout exceeding 80 percent.
The court adjourned further proceedings until the second week of September.
