Peshawar (Pakistan News): A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court against the practice of having two judicial holidays per week. According to private TV reports, the petition was filed by Advocate Atless Khan through Advocate Suleman Khan, with the Registrar of Peshawar High Court being made a respondent.
The petition argues that the notification issued on March 12, closing the courts for three days, obstructs judicial independence and the timely delivery of justice to the public.
The petitioner further stated that courts should remain open seven days a week and 24 hours a day so that the public can receive justice without delay. They added that judges are public servants and should not be entitled to a salary if they do not work. The petition also referenced a Supreme Court decision and Section 352 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The petitioner has requested that the notification issued on March 12, declaring three holidays per week, be declared null and void.
