PIMS Fire: Negligence of Staff and Officials Confirmed, Initial Inquiry Report Prepared

Islamabad (Pakistan News): The inquiry committee formed by the Prime Minister has prepared an initial report on the fire incident at PIMS Hospital, revealing negligence by hospital officials and staff.

According to the report, the rescue team faced difficulties due to locks, obstructions and the absence of technical staff, while adequate firefighting equipment was also unavailable. Rescue personnel had to break through walls to reach the nursery.

The committee recorded statements from more than 30 employees, doctors, nurses and over 18 security guards. It also examined the biometric records of staff on duty, the fire brigade’s arrival time and the complete timeline of the rescue operation.

The committee has been given five days to submit a detailed report. Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority has again written to the PIMS administration regarding fire safety arrangements, while a petition seeking the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incident has been filed in the Islamabad High Court.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Health also expressed concern over the incident and demanded the suspension of doctors and staff present on duty, as well as the resignation of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal.
