Islamabad (Pakistan Khabar) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, during which they discussed the country’s political situation and conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, the prime minister contacted Maulana Fazlur Rehman late at night following a meeting chaired by him. The discussion covered the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march.
Sources said Maulana Fazlur Rehman once again expressed the view that issues should be resolved through mutual understanding and dialogue.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s political services and conciliatory approach had always been commendable. He added that the federal government had made every possible effort to resolve matters through political means.
According to sources, the prime minister said problems had arisen because PTI continued to insist on holding its long march and was distancing itself from measures to combat terrorism. He said there was still time for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the opposition to act seriously to resolve the issues.
The prime minister made it clear that the government remained willing to pursue negotiations and a political solution. However, he said the opposition must refrain from advancing on the federal government. He added that storming the federal capital would not resolve problems but would create further complications.
According to sources, the prime minister also said the federal government had worked hard to improve the national economy and wanted political stability in the country.
