New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): Indian politician and author Shashi Tharoor has said that Pakistan’s emergence as an important mediator in the ongoing Middle East crisis calls for a serious and positive response from India.
He stated that India should support peace efforts in the context of tensions involving Iran, regardless of who facilitates the negotiations. According to him, the relationship between Pakistan’s military leadership and Donald Trump is a practical reality that operates beyond traditional bureaucratic frameworks.
Shashi Tharoor added that if Pakistan succeeds in this process, India should be among the first to welcome it, as stability in a nuclear-capable region is in everyone’s interest.
He warned Indian policymakers to avoid strategic anxiety or criticism over this development, noting that any failed mediation could have consequences for the entire region. He emphasized that India also seeks peace and should not remain a mere spectator in the evolving global situation.
He further said that Pakistan’s role in any potential ceasefire between the United States and Iran cannot be ignored and deserves recognition. Given the long border between Pakistan and Iran, he noted, regional tensions would directly impact Pakistan, making its involvement in peace efforts natural.
Tharoor also stressed that a power-based global order does not serve anyone’s interests, as it could leave all countries at the mercy of major powers.
