Lahore (Pakistan Khabar) — Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that the political and military leadership has decided that sit-ins and long marches should be held away from the federal capital, Islamabad.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah said that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf wants to protest in support of its demands, it can hold demonstrations in Peshawar, Mardan, Karachi or Lahore.
He said the impression that the establishment is unhappy with talks between the government and the opposition is incorrect. According to him, the decision to hold negotiations was made by the President and the Prime Minister, and the relevant institutions must have been taken into confidence.
Rana Sanaullah said that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa does not attend meetings and that if he has any position, he should speak directly with the federal government. He also advised the opposition to avoid a long march.
He said constitutional options such as governor’s rule and an emergency are available in specific circumstances. If the security situation deteriorates in a province and the provincial government does not cooperate with the federal government, what other option does the federal government have besides taking action?
However, he clarified that an emergency or governor’s rule are not preferred measures and can only be considered in an unavoidable situation.
It may be recalled that the first round of talks between the government and the opposition on political matters has been completed, with both sides agreeing to continue the dialogue.
