New York (Monitoring Desk) – A Tibetan exile set himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan in a reported act of protest.
According to media reports, the man arrived at the location carrying a Tibetan flag, which he reportedly placed on a pole before setting himself on fire.
Firefighters reached the scene shortly afterward and extinguished the flames, but the man had already collapsed on the ground.
Tibetan media outlet Voice of Tibet identified the individual as activist Lobga Rangzen, who allegedly carried out the act calling for Tibetan independence and national unity.
Exiled Tibetan leader Gonpo Dhundup described the incident as a protest against China’s control over Tibet and alleged repression.
