WASHINGTON (Monitoring Desk): US news website Axios has reported that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have discussed the possibility of a major military operation against Iran.
According to the Axios report, the two leaders discussed various aspects of potential military action last week, including the possibility of targeting Iran’s military and nuclear facilities.
The report said Netanyahu expressed concern over Israeli intelligence information regarding Iran’s nuclear programme. Israel is also concerned about a potential uranium enrichment facility in Iran referred to as Pickaxe Mountain.
According to Axios, President Trump has not yet made a final decision on launching fresh strikes against Iran. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and some officials at US Central Command support renewed military action, while several of the president’s advisers currently favour maintaining economic sanctions.
The report also claimed that Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir and Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine held discussions regarding possible strikes against Iran.
Meanwhile, the White House has denied the Axios report, saying that President Trump has adopted a position against attacking Iran before the midterm elections.
It is worth noting that these details about possible military action against Iran originated in the Axios report, which the White House has denied.
