New York (Monitoring Desk) Fourteen United Nations human rights experts have expressed serious concern over the growing violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, issuing a strong warning.
In a joint statement, the experts said that settler attacks have become a constant source of fear in the daily lives of Palestinians, increasing insecurity, uncertainty, and the risk of forced displacement.
The statement noted that the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is also among the signatories. According to the experts, the ongoing attacks by the settler movement are being carried out with Israeli support and tacit approval.
The UN experts further said that the lack of effective action and accountability for the violence is worsening the situation, strengthening concerns over human rights violations and ethnic displacement.
They called on the international community to urgently address the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and ensure effective measures for the protection of civilians.
