US-Iran Tensions Rise as Trump Demands Tehran Surrender

Washington/Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified, with US President Donald Trump refusing to extend the expired memorandum of understanding and demanding that Iran surrender to end the war.

Trump said the United States does not intend to extend the memorandum of understanding with Iran, whose term expired on Monday. He claimed that US officials were negotiating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, but the Iranian Revolutionary Guard denied the claim.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have made it clear that Tehran could adopt a tougher strategy against the United States after the memorandum’s term expired.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that due to US violations, the 60-day period set for negotiations had become meaningless. He said Iran would not change its policy under any pressure or threat and was prepared to respond in the event of an attack.

Continuing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and US claims of control over the important maritime passage have also raised further concerns in the region.
