190m pound case: PTI founder appeals sentence suspension in SC

Islamabad (Pakistan News) In the 190 million pound case, the founder of PTI and Bushra Bibi have approached the Supreme Court seeking suspension of their sentence, challenging the decision of the Islamabad High Court.

In the appeals filed before the Supreme Court, it was stated that the Islamabad High Court rejected the applications for suspension of sentence despite repeated delays by NAB and ignored key legal aspects of the case.

According to the petitioners, the High Court dismissed the appeals for suspension of sentence without a preliminary review of evidence, which is against the requirements of justice.

The petition states that jail authorities deliberately delayed getting signatures on the power of attorney documents, while the PTI founder has reportedly lost 85% vision in his right eye. It is also stated that Bushra Bibi underwent an eye operation during imprisonment, but her family and lawyers were not informed.

The application further claims that both were kept in solitary confinement in Adiala Jail, causing severe mental distress. It argues that failing to suspend the sentence despite serious health issues is unjust.

It is further stated that NAB repeatedly sought adjournments, unnecessarily prolonging the proceedings and delaying justice.

The petitioners say they were granted bail during trial and some allegations were already declared baseless, therefore rejection of suspension of sentence is against legal principles.

It is also argued that the arrest procedure was illegal and that a court had already ordered their release on this matter. The petitioners claim the case was politically motivated under the name of accountability and violated the principles of fair trial.

The Supreme Court has been requested to declare the Islamabad High Court’s decision void, suspend the sentence, and order the release of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.
