Egypt Considers Joining Makkah Defense Pact

Cairo (Monitoring Desk) — Egypt has begun seriously reviewing the possibility of joining the Makkah Joint Defense Pact concluded between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt has deep and special relations with Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, which are not limited to the political sphere.

Asked about Egypt joining the Makkah Defense Pact, Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt has been aware of the agreement from the outset and that Egyptian state institutions are comprehensively reviewing the matter before a final decision can be made.

He said that a complete review is necessary while taking into account Egypt’s constitutional and legal requirements regarding defense agreements and the obligations associated with them.

It may be noted that a few days ago, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye signed a joint defense agreement under which an attack on any one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three.
