Mumbai (Showbiz Desk): Anees Bazmee, director of the Bollywood film “Welcome,” has revealed how he convinced Nana Patekar to play the role of Uday Shetty in the film.
According to Anees Bazmee, Nana Patekar was initially unwilling to take on the role. He called the actor and arranged a meeting, expressing his desire to narrate the story of the film. During the meeting, Nana Patekar asked the director for assurance that the film was suitable for him even before hearing the story.
The director said that instead of making a promise, he decided to narrate the complete story and spent nearly three hours reading the film’s script to Nana Patekar. After the story was completed, the actor hugged him and said that he was like raw clay and the director could shape him into whatever form he wanted.
Anees Bazmee said that Nana Patekar’s anger and stern temperament are commonly discussed, but in his personal experience, working with the actor was extremely easy.
Released in 2007, “Welcome” featured Nana Patekar as the intimidating but comic don Uday Shetty. His pairing and banter with Anil Kapoor’s Majnu Bhai made the character extremely popular, and it later became the subject of numerous famous memes on social media.
