Karachi (Commerce Desk) Despite unfavorable weather and a strike by transporters, a significant increase in cotton arrivals at ginning factories across the country has been recorded, resulting in national production rising by 25 percent compared to last year.
According to the fortnightly report of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, cotton equivalent to 1.114 million bales reached ginning factories across the country by August 15, which is 25 percent higher than the same period last year.
According to the report, cotton equivalent to 379,000 bales arrived in Punjab, showing a 3 percent year-on-year increase, while Sindh recorded a record 42 percent increase with 734,000 bales.
According to data from the Crop Reporting Services Punjab, the province’s cotton production is 35 percent higher than the figures reported by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association. A further increase in cotton arrivals is expected between August 16 and 21, which may lead to a decline in cotton and phutti prices.
According to the report, textile mills have purchased 951,000 bales, while exporters have purchased 13,000 bales. Ginning factories currently have saleable stocks of 163,000 bales.
At present, 112 ginning factories are operational in Punjab, while 156 are active in Sindh.
