Eid-ul-Adha: Over 7.4 Million Animals Sacrificed, Hide Value Reaches Billions of Rupees

Islamabad (Commerce Desk) A significant increase was recorded in the number of sacrificial animals in Pakistan during this year’s Eid-ul-Adha.

According to the Pakistan Tanners Association, a total of 7.47 million animals were sacrificed across the country this year, marking an increase compared to 6.97 million last year.

The report shows that this year’s sacrificed animals included 2.75 million cattle and bulls, 4.2 million goats, 500,000 sheep, and 25,000 camels. Goats remained the most commonly sacrificed animals.

It further stated that prices of animal hides remained relatively stable. The average price of cattle hides stood at around Rs. 2,200, goat hides at Rs. 600, sheep hides at Rs. 100, and camel hides at around Rs. 2,000.

The total value of hides reached approximately Rs. 8.67 billion, making it a key economic segment for the country’s leather industry.

Industry experts say improved preservation, timely salting, and efficient transportation could further strengthen the leather sector and boost export potential.

They added that the scale of sacrifice activity and the multi-billion-rupee hide market highlights the continued importance of livestock and leather industries in Pakistan’s economy.
