FIFA Rejects Iran’s Request, World Cup Matches to Be Held in United States

Washington: The global football body FIFA has rejected Iran’s request to shift its 2026 World Cup matches from the United States to another country, raising questions over Iran’s participation.

According to international media reports, Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that FIFA declined the request, citing administrative challenges.

Reports suggest that Iran had demanded its group-stage matches be moved to Mexico due to tensions between the United States and Israel, along with security concerns.

However, FIFA has made it clear that no changes will be made to the tournament schedule and that all matches will take place at their originally designated venues.

The Mexican president also supported FIFA’s stance, stating that the matches will proceed in the United States as planned.
