Global Report: Indian Muslims Forced to Prove Loyalty

MUMBAI (Monitoring Desk): Muslims in India continue to face a situation in which they are repeatedly forced to prove their loyalty amid discriminatory attitudes and alleged state actions against them. Critics say the promotion of Hindutva politics under the Modi government has increased difficulties for Indian Muslims.

According to Indian magazine National Herald, Muslim student Farah Naz said that police allegedly assaulted her during a protest at Jantar Mantar and kept her in a vehicle for several hours because she was Muslim. She said police officials told her and other Muslim protesters that they would be placed on a separate list and called traitors.

Farah Naz said Muslims are also being targeted and labelled traitors on social media.

According to the report, concerns have repeatedly been raised over incidents of violence against Muslims in India, damage to mosques, and the hatred faced by them. The article also referred to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s view that Muslims who remained in India could face difficulties in the future.
