Muzaffarabad (Pakistan News) The Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has suspended the High Court’s decision regarding the provisional registration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Chief Justice Saeed Akram Raja has constituted a full bench, and the hearing of the case will be held on 2 July on the request of the Election Commission.
During the hearing, the Election Commission argued that the High Court granted relief beyond the scope of the petition, therefore the decision should be annulled.
It is worth noting that earlier the AJK High Court had directed the Election Commission to register PTI; however, the Election Commission challenged this decision in the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the suspension of the High Court’s decision, PTI will currently not be able to obtain the electoral symbol “bat”.
The general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for 27 July 2026, while the Election Commission has already issued the election schedule. Dates for nomination papers, scrutiny, appeals, and withdrawal have also been announced.
According to updated voter lists, the number of registered voters in Azad Kashmir has increased to over approximately 3.8 million, which is 5.8 lakh more than in the 2021 elections.
In the political environment, a tough competition is expected between the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party, while an alliance between the PPP and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has also been formed. Political activities are continuing rapidly across various constituencies.
