Peshawar (Pakistan News): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced important measures for the welfare of journalists and the improvement of the media sector.
The Chief Minister has given principled approval for the early laying of the foundation stone of the new building of Peshawar Press Club and the establishment of a separate endowment fund for journalists.
The Chief Minister said the government is taking practical steps to promote free, responsible, and independent journalism while providing a safe and conducive environment for journalists.
He said that in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, Rs 1 billion has been allocated for interest-free loans for working journalists, while Rs 500 million has been set aside for feasibility and design of media colonies.
According to him, Rs 150 million has been allocated for the new building of Peshawar Press Club, Rs 300 million for the rehabilitation of district press clubs across the province, and Rs 100 million for innovation and development in the information sector.
The Chief Minister further said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Journalists Welfare Endowment Fund has been increased from Rs 200 million to Rs 500 million.
He directed authorities to link government advertisements given to media organizations with the payment of dues and minimum wages of working journalists.
He added that media development along with improving working conditions and welfare of journalists remains a top priority of the government.
The Chief Minister also instructed that progress on the New Peshawar Valley City Media Enclave project should be ensured in consultation with journalists and in accordance with rules, and also directed that study tours for journalists be arranged.
On this occasion, the General Secretary of Peshawar Press Club invited the Chief Minister to visit the press club and lay the foundation stone of the new building.
