Lahore (Sports Desk): Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi has admitted that not learning English during his school years as a child remains a source of regret for him.
Messi, who has won almost every major honor in football, has enjoyed countless successes, including the Ballon d’Or at the individual level, the UEFA Champions League with his club, and the FIFA World Cup with Argentina. However, he says he still regrets not taking advantage of certain opportunities in life.
Speaking in an interview with a Mexican podcast, Messi explained that if he knew another language, he could have spoken directly with many extraordinary people he had met throughout his life. However, the language barrier had prevented him from doing so.
He said he had the opportunity to learn English as a child and could at least have made time to study the language, but he did not. According to Messi, this is one of the mistakes he deeply regrets.
Despite his global fame, Messi has primarily continued to communicate in Spanish and often relies on an interpreter when he needs to speak another language.
Messi now encourages his children to learn from his experience. He said he urges them to learn English and make the most of the opportunities available to them, as their circumstances are different from those he experienced during his own childhood.
The football star also described the final year of his schooling in Argentina as disappointing.
