Monterrey (Sports Desk) In a thrilling match of the FIFA World Cup played in Monterrey, Morocco defeated Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout to secure a place in the pre-quarterfinals.
For most of the match, Morocco displayed impressive football and launched several dangerous attacks; however, Netherlands goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen produced an outstanding performance and saved his team on numerous occasions.
The first half ended goalless. In the second half, the Netherlands took the lead in the 72nd minute through a swift counterattack when Cody Gakpo, the Liverpool forward, fired a powerful shot into the back of the net.
