Istanbul (Commerce Desk): Pakistan and Turkey have signed three important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to further expand cooperation in the energy sector.
The agreements were signed during a high-level inter-ministerial consultation held in Istanbul, aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation, enhancing technical expertise exchange, and promoting joint development initiatives in the energy sector.
The signed MoUs include an agreement between Pakistan’s Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) and Turkey’s energy exchange institution, another between ISMO and Turkey’s transmission system operator, and a third cooperation agreement between Pakistan’s Power Planning and Monitoring Company and a Turkish counterpart organization.
Under these agreements, cooperation will be promoted in areas such as post-privatization governance frameworks, electricity market development, ancillary services regulations, power system operations, transmission planning, electricity distribution, and digitalization.
Both sides also agreed to enhance institutional capacity, exchange technical expertise, and benefit from modern practices. This includes training programs, study visits, expert exchanges, and joint technical projects.
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari welcomed the agreements, stating that these partnerships will play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy institutions and accelerating reforms in the power sector.
The Turkish side also expressed its commitment to continuing long-term institutional cooperation with Pakistan.
The Government of Pakistan described the agreements as an important outcome of bilateral energy consultations, stating that they reflect the growing strategic partnership between the two countries in the energy sector.
