Amstelveen (Sports Desk) — Four-time world champions Pakistan defeated South Africa in a penalty shootout to conclude their World Cup campaign in 11th place.
In the 11th-place match, South Africa increased the pressure from the start and scored in the first quarter. They added another goal in the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead.
Pakistan made a remarkable comeback, equalizing through goals by Afraz and then Muhammad Hammad. Both teams were level at 2-2 at halftime.
At the start of the third quarter, captain Rana Waheed scored to put Pakistan back in front. However, South Africa scored eight minutes later to make it 3-3.
In the final stage of the match, South Africa scored from a penalty stroke to take a 4-3 lead, but in the final seconds of the match, Hammaduddin found the net to level the score at 4-4.
The match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Pakistan secured a 3-4 victory to claim 11th place in the World Cup.
