São Paulo (Monitoring Desk): A major protest was held in Brazil against Taliban policies in Afghanistan and their reported diplomatic visits to Europe, with participants expressing serious concerns over alleged human rights violations.
According to a report by Afghan publication Hasht-e Subh, the demonstration in São Paulo was organized by the human rights group “Voice of Women” in protest against Taliban policies and their reported visit to Brussels.
The protest was attended by Afghan refugees as well as representatives of local and international human rights organizations in large numbers. Demonstrators held placards and banners calling for women’s rights to education, freedom, and employment in Afghanistan.
Participants said that any international diplomatic engagement or invitation involving the Taliban is against the sentiments of the Afghan people and violates basic human rights principles. During the protest, slogans such as “Do not recognise the Taliban” and “Stand with Afghan women” were also raised.
Protesters urged the international community to treat the Taliban as an extremist group and take stronger action over alleged human rights violations.
Analysts say that diplomatic or technical engagement with the Taliban is seen by some as an attempt at international normalization, a topic that continues to be debated globally.
The protest in Brazil reflects growing criticism in many international circles over Taliban policies and highlights ongoing divisions in global opinion on the issue.
