Lahore (Sports Desk) — South Africa’s star fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will miss the three-match ODI series against Australia scheduled for next month due to a hamstring injury in his leg.
Rabada’s participation in the three-Test series against Australia, starting October 9, has also been made subject to his fitness.
According to the South African cricket board, Rabada is in the early stages of recovery from a right-leg hamstring injury and will have to remain out of action for at least another four and a half weeks.
The board did not provide details about the nature or severity of the injury; however, his availability will be decided after assessing his recovery as the Test series approaches.
Kagiso Rabada’s injury is a major setback for the South African team, as he is regarded as one of the team’s most important fast bowlers in Test cricket.
In the 2025 World Test Championship final against Australia, Rabada played a prominent role in South Africa’s historic victory by taking nine wickets.
In Rabada’s absence, the bowling responsibilities of Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch will increase further, while Kwena Maphaka, Dane Paterson and Wiaan Mulder are also available as alternatives.
Anrich Nortje and Gerald Coetzee, who have been away from Test cricket for quite some time, may also get an opportunity to return to the team.
