Lahore (Sports Desk) — Salman Ali Agha is the second-most successful T20 captain in Pakistan’s history, but the past few months have brought continuous ups and downs for him.
He led the national team in the first Test against England in Leeds, but was dropped from the team for the second Test at Lord’s and sent back home before the third Test in Birmingham.
Later, Salman Agha made an impressive comeback in domestic cricket, scoring a triple century in a first-class President’s Trophy match. However, despite this outstanding performance, his difficulties did not end.
Salman Agha has now also been removed as captain of Pakistan’s T20 team and has not been included in the squad for the series against Sri Lanka.
After Babar Azam, Salman Agha has captained Pakistan in the second-highest number of T20 matches, leading the team in 50 games. Under his captaincy, Pakistan won 31 matches, lost 18 and had one match end without a result.
Under his leadership, Pakistan had a win-to-loss ratio of 1.720, which is the second-best ratio for a Pakistani captain after Sarfaraz Ahmed’s 3.620.
At the 2026 T20 World Cup, Pakistan won four of their seven matches under Salman Agha’s captaincy, lost two and had one match end without a result.
However, Salman Agha’s individual performance in the tournament did not meet expectations. He scored only 65 runs in six innings at an average of 9.28.
Following this performance, speculation began regarding his captaincy. Sahibzada Farhan, who led Pakistan against India in the Asian Games final, has now been appointed as the permanent T20 captain.
Sahibzada Farhan also displayed excellent form at the T20 World Cup, scoring 383 runs in six innings, including two centuries and two half-centuries.
