Ankara (Monitoring Desk) — Israeli media reports have claimed that a plan by Israel to create unrest and pursue regime change in Iran was thwarted due to timely intervention by Türkiye.
According to the reports, Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad had developed a strategy to use Kurdish armed groups for anti-government activities in Iran. However, the plan could not be implemented due to Türkiye’s intervention. Following the alleged failure, disagreements reportedly emerged within Mossad, and two senior officials were removed from their positions.
According to Israeli media, efforts to create internal instability were part of the plan alongside US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. Mossad had planned to coordinate the activities of Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq and inside Iran with Israeli air operations.
The reports said the objective was to fuel an uprising against the Iranian government and provide support for it through Israeli airstrikes.
Meanwhile, after becoming aware of increased activities by Kurdish elements in northern Iraq and areas along the Iranian border, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan contacted US President Donald Trump by telephone in early March and warned him about the plan.
According to the reports, Erdogan opposed involving armed groups in the Iran conflict and reiterated Türkiye’s position in favor of Iran’s territorial integrity. Later, US media reported that Trump became reluctant to support the use of Kurdish groups inside Iran and also developed further reservations about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal for regime change.
