UK heatwave: June 2026 second hottest on record

London (Monitoring Desk): A severe heatwave in the United Kingdom has severely disrupted daily life, while the Met Office has confirmed that June 2026 was the second hottest June in the country’s 142-year recorded history.

According to the UK Met Office, based on climate records dating back to 1884, June 2026 ranks among the hottest months ever recorded in the UK. Data shows that this June was the second warmest on record for England and Wales since 1884.

The Met Office said average temperatures during the month remained significantly above normal, clearly reflecting the growing impact of climate change and global warming.

British media reports indicate that unusually high temperatures were recorded not only during the day but also at night. England, Wales, and Scotland all saw record-high night temperatures during June, leaving residents struggling with humidity and discomfort.

The report added that temperatures in Charlwood, Surrey, reached 35.7°C, setting a new June record. The previous record of 35.6°C was set in 1976.

Meteorologists say the effects of the ongoing European heatwave are being strongly felt in the UK as well, with temperatures expected to remain above average in the coming days.
