Unusual Cricket Incident: Wide Ball Goes Directly for a Boundary

Vancouver (Sports Desk) — An extremely unusual scene was witnessed in the second semi-final of the Canada Super 60, where a ball called wide went directly over the boundary.

During the match played at BC Place, Mississauga Masters’ Pakistani-origin fast bowler Ali Khan bowled a short-pitched delivery to Toronto Sixers’ Kieron Pollard.

The ball bounced unexpectedly, went over Pollard and the wicketkeeper standing behind the stumps, and crossed the boundary without touching the ground.

Commentator Danny Morrison sparked a discussion over whether the delivery should be called “six wides,” but the umpire signaled five wides.

According to the laws of cricket, if a wide ball reaches the boundary, a total of five runs are awarded, including one extra wide run and four boundary runs. Therefore, it cannot be called a six.

However, under the laws, six wides are possible if the batter completes five runs by running on a wide delivery. In such a situation, one wide run plus five runs completed by running results in a total of six runs.
