Washington (Monitoring Desk) U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are heading to Switzerland on an important diplomatic mission, where talks are expected on turning the interim Washington–Tehran agreement into a permanent regional peace deal.
According to the U.S. website Axios, Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will also attend the high-level meeting alongside Steve Witkoff, while the participation of the Iranian foreign minister is also expected.
The development comes at a time when the regional situation has become more sensitive following escalations between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, along with rising global concerns over energy and security.
Reports suggest that under a recent 14-point interim agreement, the parties have been given 60 days to work on resolving Iran’s nuclear program and other regional disputes.
According to a senior U.S. official, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has also been agreed upon, with mediators from the United States and Qatar playing a key role, and both sides confirming the arrangement.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health said that several people were killed in airstrikes prior to the ceasefire, while Israeli authorities also confirmed casualties among their troops.
