Philippines (Monitoring Desk): The death toll from a powerful earthquake near Manila in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao has risen to 41, while many others have been injured and thousands of families displaced.

Authorities said the earthquake struck at 7:37 a.m. local time on Monday, triggering tsunami warnings across the Philippines as well as in Indonesia, Japan, and Australia.

Several buildings collapsed in different areas, and landslides were also reported following the quake.

According to relief agencies, at least 134 people have been injured, while around 10,000 families have been displaced. There are also reports of several people missing.

Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines, is home to millions of residents. Authorities say verification of casualties and damage is still ongoing.
