Mumbai (Showbiz Desk) Bollywood actress and business personality Preity Zinta has made a major legal breakthrough in her case against AI-generated deepfake content.
According to Indian media reports, Justice Abhay Ahuja of the Mumbai High Court allowed the actress, on her petition, to approach the court for legal action, enabling her to file lawsuits against various digital platforms.
These platforms include Google, Meta, and X, among other social media networks, where AI-generated videos, altered images, memes, and chatbot-based personas were allegedly using her identity without permission.
Preity Zinta’s stance is that the content was created without her consent and violates her personality rights, copyright, and moral rights, while also damaging her reputation and public image.
Her lawyer, Rohan Kadam, informed the court that such content was being created and circulated across multiple digital platforms using artificial intelligence to misuse her persona.
It was also argued in court that the material not only violates legal rights but could also harm her privacy and reputation, and due to its online nature, it spreads globally within a very short time.
