Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The government has decided to introduce a new system to ensure transparent auctions and fair distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), under which a major portion of locally produced LPG will be auctioned in the presence of media representatives.
In this regard, the first meeting of the committee established for the purpose was held under the chairmanship of the Petroleum Secretary, during which matters related to LPG availability, prices and fair distribution were reviewed.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said that ensuring the availability of LPG at reasonable prices and addressing public concerns regarding unfair rates were the government's top priorities. He said the new auction mechanism would play an important role in ensuring fair distribution of gas, stabilising the supply system and strengthening energy security.
During the meeting, it was decided that locally producing LPG companies would allocate 10 percent of their total production to government advertising and marketing companies, while the remaining 90 percent of the gas would be sold through transparent auctions in the presence of media representatives.
The committee decided that each company would be allowed to purchase a maximum of 20 metric tons of LPG per day through the auction, while equal opportunities would be provided to all eligible companies.
The meeting also decided to monitor daily LPG production and present detailed statistics in this regard to the Prime Minister.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said that the government's primary objective was to ensure the uninterrupted supply of LPG to consumers at reasonable prices. It is worth mentioning that the federal cabinet approved the transparent LPG auction mechanism on November 4, 2026.
