California (Web Desk): Popular messaging application WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new feature that will allow users to read the latest messages in a chat without opening it, while the sender will not see blue ticks indicating that the messages have been read.
According to technology website WABetaInfo, a new options menu is being developed in WhatsApp for Android users. This menu will appear when users press and hold a chat for a short time in the app's main chat list.
Along with other options, the menu will include a message preview feature, allowing users to view recent messages in a selected chat without opening it.
The new menu will offer several features, including marking chats as unread, pinning them and archiving them. Other available options will include locking a chat, adding it to a list, viewing its information and creating a shortcut to it on the home screen.
The most notable feature is that even after viewing message previews, the sender will not see the blue ticks confirming that the messages have been read. A message will only be marked as read when the user actually opens the relevant chat.
According to the report, this feature has currently appeared in a beta testing version, but no final release date for all users has been announced yet.
