California (Web Desk): A recent study has revealed that electric vehicles are approximately 1.8 times more likely than petrol-powered vehicles to develop faults related to their wheels and tires.
The study by the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association analyzed data from more than 47 million vehicle inspections conducted in the United Kingdom.
According to the study, the heavy batteries and instant torque produced by electric motors place additional pressure on tires. The batteries in some electric vehicles weigh between 299 and 499 kilograms, accounting for up to 25 percent of the vehicle’s total weight.
According to the report, electric motors deliver high torque instantly when accelerating, placing additional force on tires and increasing the likelihood of faster wear or damage.
The study identified more prominent tire-related problems in older models, while faults involving friction-based brakes were also found in some vehicles.
According to the association, some electric vehicle owners are facing additional repair and tire replacement costs, while replacing expensive or high-quality tires can cost hundreds of pounds.
