Riyadh (Monitoring Desk): Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Department has issued an emergency threat alert for various cities, including Makkah, Jeddah, Yanbu, Taif and Tabuk.
According to Arab media, the alert issued through the National Early Warning Platform instructed citizens and foreign residents to follow official directions, stay away from crowds and refrain from taking photographs or videos of the situation.
Authorities did not immediately specify the reason for issuing the alert. However, the development comes after recent missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on Saudi Arabia.
Later, Saudi Civil Defense confirmed that the threat had passed in Makkah, Jeddah and the other concerned cities, saying that there was no longer any danger. However, citizens were advised to continue taking precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition forces operating in Yemen, said that Saudi air defenses had intercepted and destroyed six ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis in the air.
