Washington (Monitoring Desk) — Multiple explosions were heard in Iran’s southern coastal areas, while the US military confirmed new operations against Iran, saying the strikes were aimed at reducing threats to international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian media, explosions were heard in Sirik and Bandar Abbas, while reports of explosions also emerged from areas near Konarak and Chabahar. Reports stated that air defense systems in these areas became active to counter the attacks.
According to a foreign news agency, power supply was affected in Chabahar following the explosions, while Iran’s state broadcaster reported that eight explosions were heard in the southern coastal city, after which air defense systems were activated.
According to the US military, the operations were carried out to weaken Iranian capabilities that threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. US officials said that air defense systems, coastal radars, anti-ship missile installations, and other military targets were targeted in the attacks.
A statement from the US Central Command said that the United States is holding Iran accountable for recent actions against commercial vessels and their civilian crews traveling through the internationally important waterway.
According to Iran’s official news agency, US strikes also targeted facilities at Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran, resulting in the death of a firefighter who was on duty.
Meanwhile, Iran has described the US actions as aggression and indicated a strong response, while concerns are growing that rising tensions in the region could lead to further escalation.
