Karachi (Showbiz Desk): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s national airline, has assigned renowned Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, the responsibility of designing new uniforms for its staff.
According to PIA, renowned fashion designers were invited last month to present designs for the airline’s new staff uniforms at an event in Karachi. HSY’s design was selected with innovation, quality and the representation of Pakistani culture in mind.
The airline’s management says the new uniforms will be unveiled on October 31, during the first flight of a Boeing 787 aircraft travelling from London to Islamabad. PIA staff will welcome passengers on the flight while wearing the new uniforms.
According to PIA management, the purpose of changing the uniforms is to give staff a modern and distinctive appearance while preserving the airline’s national identity and Pakistani cultural traditions.
It is worth noting that internationally renowned French fashion designer Pierre Cardin and British designer Sir Hardy Amies have also designed uniforms for PIA staff in the past. HSY’s selection for the new uniforms is being seen as an effort to modernise the national airline’s image.
