New York (Sports Desk): The historic jersey worn by Brazilian football legend Pele during the 1958 FIFA World Cup Final has been sold for a record-breaking price.
According to international media reports, Pele’s memorable jersey was auctioned for $4.9 million during an auction held in New York, making it the second most expensive football jersey ever sold.
The jersey is a historic piece from the 1958 World Cup Final, when 17-year-old Pele scored two goals against hosts Sweden, helping Brazil win its first-ever World Cup title.
This achievement marked the beginning of Pele’s remarkable journey of winning three World Cup titles during his legendary career. He still holds the record as the youngest player to score in a World Cup Final.
According to auction organizers, more than five buyers participated in the bidding process for the historic jersey.
Interestingly, the same jersey was sold in 2004 for $105,600, but its historical significance increased over time, causing its value to rise several times.
The record for the most expensive football jersey ever sold still belongs to Argentine football legend Diego Maradona’s famous 1986 World Cup jersey.
