Islamabad (Pakistan News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding reached between Iran and the United States in his capacity as a mediator.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the memorandum had already been signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally endorsed the agreement in his mediatory role.
The statement said that the agreement concerns the end of hostilities, the reduction of regional tensions, and the restoration of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Following the signing, it came into effect immediately.
In a statement shared through social media, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that technical-level negotiations under the agreement would begin on June 19. He described the development as an important step toward peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the region.
The Prime Minister praised the diplomatic efforts of the Iranian leadership and the U.S. administration, stating that the agreement had helped avert the risk of a major confrontation. He also commended all parties involved in the negotiation process.
Shehbaz Sharif further stated that Pakistan had played a constructive role as a mediator and expressed hope that the agreement would create new opportunities for lasting peace and economic cooperation across the region.
