PTA Blocks Over 1.54 Million Social Media Links

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has continued its crackdown on obscene, provocative, and other objectionable content on social media, blocking 1,542,800 links over the past 10 years.

According to a PTA spokesperson, the action rate against objectionable content has reached 90 percent. More than 1.065 million links containing content contrary to moral values were blocked, including 230,000 Facebook links, 170,000 TikTok links, and more than 74,000 links on X.

According to the report, more than 66,000 YouTube links were blocked, with an action rate of 88.6 percent. Similarly, more than 50,000 WhatsApp links and over 45,000 Instagram links were blocked.

According to the PTA, more than 141,000 links related to terrorism, over 74,000 links against national security and defense, and 112,482 links containing anti-Islamic content were blocked.

More than 52,000 links containing sectarian and hateful content were also blocked, while 99.99 percent of links to proxy websites were blocked as part of action against them.

According to the PTA, more than 1.7 million complaints were acted upon during the period, while over 76,000 complaints are still under review and more than 100,000 requests have been rejected.
