Islamabad (Pakistan News) — Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s attempt to march on Islamabad on September 27 will be its last, after which it will not be able to head toward the federal capital again.
Khawaja Asif, who is part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s delegation in New York, said in an interview that PTI leaders were comparing Islamabad with Somnath, whereas Islamabad is the capital of a major Islamic and nuclear state. He said this would be PTI’s decisive attempt, although it was also possible that they might not come to protest at all.
PTI has announced a march on Islamabad for September 27, while federal government ministers have said that protesters will not be allowed to enter the capital.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that if the government tried to stop the protest, the youth would respond strongly, while PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar has also warned the government of a reaction if it attempts to suppress the protest.
On the other hand, former PTI leader Fauzia Kasuri said that anyone talking about attacking Islamabad under the pretext of a protest is not a friend of Pakistan. She said protests should certainly be held, but instead of running campaigns against the state and armed forces, attention should be focused on government policies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
