KARACHI (Pakistan Khabar): Goods transporters have announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting today, August 8, after negotiations with the federal and Sindh governments failed to resolve their demands.
President of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Malik Shehzad Awan said talks with the federal and Sindh governments held on Friday ended without any result. According to him, both governments did not appear serious about resolving the transporters’ demands, so transporters remain firm on their decision to strike.
The negotiations were attended by the federal minister for communications, secretary communications, chairman of the National Highway Authority, and inspector general of Motorway Police on behalf of the federal government. The Sindh government was represented by the Karachi commissioner, secretary transport, secretary excise, deputy inspector general traffic, deputy inspector general driving licenses, PTA, and RTA officials.
According to Malik Shehzad Awan, despite the negotiations, no solution was found to the longstanding demands of goods transporters, prompting them to launch an indefinite nationwide strike from today.
